”"Patients will often ask me during visits if a specific detail is relevant or necessary because it may not be related to their medication. My reply is that the goal of psychiatric treatment is broader than simply the choice of medication. As a psychiatrist, my guiding principle is to approach diagnosis and treatment from a patient centered approach. This begins with learning from patients what their goals are and collaboratively establishing treatment plans. It is essential to know patients as individuals and to address both biologic and social factors in treatment. In addition, I attempt to view mental health concerns through a developmental lens, an approach strengthened by my training in child and adolescent psychiatry."
