If you’ve experienced a traumatic or highly stressful event—either as a direct participant or a witness—you may experience distressing recollections of the event. Sometimes, such recollections take the form “flashbacks” that feel like you’re reliving the experience.

You may also have nightmares, irritability, difficulty concentrating or sleeping, an increased vigilance to possible dangers around you, and other overwhelming feelings when reminded of the event.

Trauma and stress disorders include Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The intense emotional and physical strain of trauma and stress can make daily life painful and frightening. Yet sometimes, people who suffer from trauma or stress disorders don’t seek help because they don’t realize that their condition is real and treatable.

The first step towards wellness is proper diagnosis and understanding of the event (or combination of events) that triggered a trauma and stress disorder, along with treatments to eliminate or manage the symptoms.
